Myself & fellow artists displaying our artwork
While you're here, since 2013 I've been frequenting the Advice Surgeries of our S.W. Herts MP and "local Dad" David Gauke to work out how, as an average citizen I can inform myself of the work of Parliament and local government and help influence policy. November 12th marks the start of Parliament Week(UK). Parliament wants to know what we think of its work and how it affects our day to day lives. I'll have info.
Recently I've been advocating for Mr Gauke to take an active interest in the principle and practice of participatory democracy in the form of citizens' assemblies, which can & has helped Parliament influence Government policy for our collective benefit, such as informing best practice regarding adult social care and affordable housing, & the protection of our water environment. I will have some examples [from Open Government Network; Constitution Unit (UCL); Sortition Foundation and the charity Involve who ran Parliament's first citizens' assembly on Adult Social Care this year, and more] of how this works in practice, and what current efforts are under way to help us collectively effect positive & healthy outcomes for ourselves and future generations.
